Concert Series
When two worlds meet, anything can happen. In 2020, the Orchestra and Ensemble of Floodligt Musicals and the Choir of RWTH Aachen University embarked together on a journey through colorful worlds of musical theater. Under the direction of Manuel Gottschlich, they presented emotional key moments in classical musicals and showed that it is worth looking beyond one’s own limited horizon and trying to understand the world of others. Unfortunately, a major crisis in the form of the corona pandemic was casting its shadow over this project and prevented the possibility of holding the final concert.

What constitutes our true humanity? Doctor Henry Jekyll believes in a theory that man has two existences: good and evil. He is obsessed with the idea of separating these two opposites in the human to be able to live a life without moral failures. After the board of governors denies him all support, he undertakes a self-experiment with fatal consequences. The musical adaption of Frank Wildhorn intertwines existential philosiphical scenarios with stories of personal fate.
In 2019, Floodlight Musicals shed new light on the classic novel by Robert Louis Stevenson by developing an ambitious production under the musical direction of Manuel Gottschlich. In four acclaimed performances with 2.500 audience members, they awakend the thrilling musical worlds of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde while questioning the basic pillars of societal morality and ethics.

What does it mean to be true to oneself? In „Jane Eyre,“ the classic novel by Charlotte Bronte, our protagonist struggles with this question throughout her life. Her journey takes her through love, loss, and ultimately self-discovery as she learns to follow her own moral compass despite societal expectations.
In 2022, Floodlight Musicals brought Bronte’s beloved story to life through a moving musical adaptation that explores themes of individuality, identity, and the enduring power of love. Under the direction of Manuel Gottschlich, the cast and crew delivered four unforgettable performances.

Shadows of Notre Dame is an experimental concert experience joining the refinement of a classical concert with with the storytelling of musical theatre. The orchestra and choir takes the audience on a journey through France and its diverse musical highlights.
The concert tells of two brothers who grew up within the walls of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Despite their differing personalities, they once had a close relationship. Frollo is a devout man who had an affair with a woman named Christine, while Jehan gets banished from the cathedral and falls in love with a woman named Anya. Frollo’s obsession with Christine leads to him violently ending her life, while Jehan returns to Paris with Anya to confront his brother’s actions.
The concert brings this captivating story to life through a blend of music, lighting, and theatrical elements, making for a unique and unforgettable experience.
